Memorial Grove May 4, 2024
Remembering Thirty-seven Honorees
Monument Fire Center

The 103rd year of planting trees at the Rocky Mountain Region Memorial Grove will take place on Saturday May 4, 2024. The program will start at 10 am and we will be honoring thirty-seven individuals including thirty-four who passed away in 2023 and three folks who will be added to the Memorial as “Not Forgotten” (see attached list). We have family and friends of most all the honorees coming, so we are anticipating a large attendance. If you plan to attend and have not let us know you are coming, we ask that you let us know by sending a simple email to Tom L. Thompson at thom46pson@gmail.com by Wednesday, April 12.

2024 Rocky Mountaineers Scholarships

The Rocky Mountaineer Scholarship Committee is now accepting scholarship applications for 2024. The deadline for applications is March 31, 2024.

We plan to offer four scholarships for $1,500 each. Two of these scholarships are earmarked for natural resource majors.

The application process requires –

  • Applicants must be high school seniors graduating this year.
  • Completion of the Application form.
  • Writing an Essay (limited to 750 words).
  • Letters of Recommendation (optional).
  • Applicants must be sponsored by a member of the Rocky Mountaineers.

The Rocky Mountaineers established a permanent memorial college scholarship fund to assist deserving high school students who are directly related to current Rocky Mountaineer members or are endorsed by a Rocky Mountaineer member.

The inspiration of the Memorial Scholarship was to honor Clint Kyhl who passed in February of 2015. One of Clint’s core values, as a steward of public land, was to provide for quality and diverse education experiences for families.

We presented our first scholarship of $1,500 in 2015 and awarded two additional scholarships in 2016 through 2019 respectively.

Since 2020 and now again in 2024, we are pleased to be able to award FOUR $1,500 scholarships, with two earmarked for natural resource majors.

The Rocky Mountaineers are dedicated to supporting the many avenues of natural resource careers and to the development of promising young people who are related or closely connected to the Rocky Mountaineers.  Donors play a significant role in achieving this goal. Please consider supporting this program.

If you have questions, send us an email at rmountaineers@gmail.com or call Frank Roth, Scholarship Committee Chair, at 307-754-7063.

2024 Rocky Mountaineer Ski Day

Picture from Winter Park Ski AreaThe Rocky Mountaineers 11th Annual Ski Day on February 8 was a great success. More than 20 Rocky Mountaineers and friends met at the Mary Jane base and skied at Winter Park Resort. The day was partly cloudy with 8-10 inches of fresh powder. We enjoyed great skiing, renewing friendships, and meeting new friends.

The event was a success thanks to Bjorn Dahl for coordinating and Doug Laraby with Winter Park Resorts for providing discounted lift tickets. Click the pic to enlarge and see the participants names.
