Grant applications will be accepted from private, non-profit, or non-governmental organizations and individuals pursuing such goals. Grant awards will not be made directly to the U.S. Forest Service. The Rocky Mountaineers have established a permanent memorial college scholarship fund to assist deserving high school students who are directly related to current RockyMountaineer members or are endorsed by a Rocky Mountaineer member.
One objective of the scholarship fund is to provide a donation opportunity formembersand families, friends and associates of Rocky Mountaineers who wish to honor and pay tribute to a loved one.
The inspiration of the Memorial Scholarship was to honor Clint Kyhl who passed in February of 2015. One of Clint’s core values, as a steward of public land, was to provide for quality and diverse education experiences for families. We presented our first scholarship of $1500 in 2015 and awarded two additional scholarships in 2016 through 2019 respectively. Since 2020 and now again in 2026, we are pleased to be able to award FOUR $1500 scholarships, with two earmarked for natural resource majors.
The Rocky Mountaineers are dedicated to supporting the many avenues of natural resource careers and to the development of promising young people who are related or closely connected to the Rocky Mountaineers. Donors play a significant role in achieving this goal. Please consider supporting this program.

Aspen Sopris Ranger Station’s Grand OpeningThe Aspen Sopris Ranger Station officially reopened its doors during Carbondale’s First Friday, held on February 6, 2026. The grand opening attracted enthusiastic visitors from the local community, celebrating the return of this important facility after a lengthy closure.

We are very pleased to share with you the Museum’s Ranger Roll Call Interim Report & Challenge for Region 2 (click). The report includes the names of the rangers since 1905 (sometimes earlier) for these eight national forest/grassland units: Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland; Bighorn National Forest; Black Hills National Forest; Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests; Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland; Nebraska National Forest and Grasslands; Pike and San Isabel National Forests and Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands; and the White River National Forest. This would not have been possible without the invaluable assistance provided by Museum volunteers (many USFS R-2 retirees), some of you personally, and many of your employees. These individuals are recognized on page 3 of the report.
We welcome your review of the report for any additions or corrections to the ranger records. Further, we would appreciate your assistance with creating supervisor lists for these same units and with creating both ranger and supervisor lists for the Rio Grande, and San Juan. The Rocky Mountaineers Forest Service Association is accepting applications for grants to help fund projects in 2026 that further the goals of the Rocky Mountaineers within the Rocky Mountain Region of the U.S. Forest Service as noted in the Project Selection Criteria.
