Rocky Mountaineers

Donated Fund Use

The Rocky Mountaineers use the annual membership fees to support our communications including our newsletter, The Rendezvous, and other organizational activities such as the Annual Gathering.  In general, the dues and donations support activities or programs that fall into these categories:

  • Memorial Grove support---Donated funds are used to procure brass plates displaying the engraved names of each year’s honorees.  These donated funds cover other expenses associated with the annual Memorial Grove ceremony, such as outreach to families, post-ceremony picnic and gathering, cost of memorial trees, and site improvement projects such as fencing and irrigation.
  • Project support---Funds are used to purchase materials, tools and/or equipment, and other expenses incidental to completion of Rocky Mountaineer volunteer projects throughout the year.
  • Forest Service family support---Dues and donations are used to assist families in need of support because of unforeseen circumstances, such as injury or death in line of service.
  • Memorial Scholarship Fund – Established in 2014, this flagship program provides for four annual scholarships of $1,500 each to competing high school seniors with Rocky Mountaineer membership connections.  The general fund provides for two of the scholarships with the other two funded by direct donations. Two of the scholarships are specially earmarked for potential Natural Resource majors.
  • Grant Program – Established in 2002, this program provides funds for projects on Region 2 National Forests. Grants will be awarded to individuals or organizations for projects that meet the Special Projects Fund and the Mission or Purpose in the Bylaws adopted by the Rocky Mountaineers Board of Directors on July 9, 2013. This policy specifies, “the Association will establish and maintain a special projects fund or account to help support special projects and other philanthropic needs.
